Toll due to Haiti cholera rises to 4,672Port au Prince (Haiti), March 11 - The toll due to cholera in Haiti has reached 4,672, since the first case was detected in October last year, an official report said.

The report of the ministry of public health and population published Thursday said 252,640 people were infected with the disease and 136,407 were hospitalised, according to Prensa Latina.

Though the illness continues to spread, steps taken to contain it are beginning to bear fruit, said Gabriel Timothee, director-general of the health ministry.

Of the current 4,714 suspected cholera cases, only 81 patients have undergone tests, Timothee said, adding that 34 of those patients tested positive for the illness.
