Professional Blood Donors May Land In Jails

New Delhi: Indian authorities are planning to take legal action against the professional blood donors.
Those who donate blood in exchange for money may face imprisonment for three months and a big fine, according to the National Blood Transfusion Services Act 2007, prepared by Union Health Ministry.
Voluntary blood donation camps provide 52.42% of all blood donated in India. The figure was 45% in 2002. It indicates that about 47.58% of all blood donated is either from paid donors or from family members, according to a recent survey conducted by World Health Organization.
