Dengue kills one in OdishaBhubaneswar, Aug 13 : The authorities Tuesday confirmed this year's first dengue death in Odisha.

The woman, who belonged to Talcher area of state's Angul district, about 170 km from here, died at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar Sunday, an official at the state health control room told IANS.

At least 123 new cases of mosquito-borne dengue have been reported, taking the total infected by the disease in the state this year to 972, he said.

Of the latest nine cases, highest five cases have been reported from Cuttack city, about 26 km from here. Jajpur reported two cases while Angul and Dhenkanal districts have both reported one each.

The latest two reported cases are one each from the districts of Ganjam and Kendrapada, a senior official of the state health control room told IANS.

Out of the fresh 10 cases, three were reported from Khordha district and two from Puri district and one case each from Cuttack, Ganjam, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Angul districts, a health official told IANS.

The death toll due to the disease has remained at six, the official said. (IANS)

Another person died of suspected swine flu in Rourkela, a health official said Thursday evening.

"One person with respiratory problems died hours after he was admitted in the hospital. Since the patient had a travel history suspecting swine flu we have sent the swab samples for test," said P. K. Rath, superintendent of CMS Hospital of Rourkela.

The students of Janipali UP School in Duduka block of the district were admitted to Salevata Primary Health Centre after they ate a midday meal laced with a detergent, which the cooks unwittingly added in place of salt, said district Chief Medical Officer P. C. Sahu.
