Bird flu toll rises to 38 in ChinaShanghai, June 1 : A man in Shanghai died from the H7N9 strain of bird flu Friday, raising the toll from the virus in China to 38.

The 59-year old man died Friday afternoon, nearly two months after being confirmed as infected with the virus, the Shanghai Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission said in a statement late Friday.

China bird-flu outbreak toll reaches sixShanghai, April 6 - The toll from an outbreak of a new strain of bird flu in eastern China rose to six Friday with the deaths of a farmer in Zhejiang province and two other people in this metropolis.

Doctors have confirmed 13 other cases of infection with a variant of the H7N9 virus.

All 13 patients are being treated under quarantine at hospitals in Shanghai and neighbouring regions.

China to test clothes for cancer-causing chemicalsShanghai, June 25 : Children's clothes in Shanghai will now be tested for cancer-causing chemicals, after parents showed concern about the quality of clothes currently on sale.

Textile experts said heavy metals may be found in buttons and dyes of such items.

Now, a new standard would regulate the levels of five types of heavy metal - antimony, cadmium, chromium, cobalt and nickel in children's clothes.
