Himachal police chuck century-old khaki to sport new look

Shimla, Feb 2: Himachal Police has given up traditional khaki uniform to don a new blue dress.

The change came after the State’s police department proposed to the State Government a change in colour of its uniform.

“Earlier also few committees were set up just to see the viability of changing the uniform," said Vinod Kumar Dhawan, Assistant Inspector General of Police.

“With the change of time and everything, there is a requirement that uniform should also be changed. But I am of the view that by merely changing the colour, we will not be able to change our vision," said A. M Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police.

But some others said they preferred the old khaki.

"Khaki is better uniform for police as our new dress which is blue and white, will get shoddy very quickly," said Beena, a woman police officer.

However, most of the cops in the State said they are willing to accept the blue and white combination and say goodbye to traditional khaki.

The new blue and white combination was displayed at the Republic Day parade at the historic ridge ground in Shimla on January 26. (ANI)
