Hyundai India reaches million units export milestoneHyundai Motor India Ltd has achieved yet another milestone of a cumulative export of one million cars after it emerged as the largest car exported from the country. Hyundai is also the second largest car maker in the country.

The milestone has been achieved in just a decade after the company started its facility near Chennai. The export from the company began in 1999 with 760 Accent model range of cars and Santro to Algeria in 2000.

The exports from the company achieved the one lack milestone in October 2004, indicated the Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India, H W Park when he was flagging off the millionth car from the company facility.

He further said that the company achieved the two lakh mark in 2005 and three lakh in the next year. The company saw its fastest exports of five lakh cars from India in 2008.

Hyundai plans to add about ten new markets for exports from India. The latest inclusion to the list was Australia where 500 units of i20s were exported in the first shipment. The company expects the total export of the model to Australia to be near 15,000 a year.

Mr. Park said that 'Made in India' Hyundai cars are already exported to 110 countries on all continents and it will reach 120 countries this year. The company exports about 50 per cent of its production.

The company saw declining demand in most countries with the exception of India and China where demand rose 7.5 per cent and 8.5 per cent, respectively due to economic slowdown.
