IKEA sells 249,375 meatballs on Friday in SingaporeIKEA Singapore has claimed that it was able to sell an impressive 249,375 meatballs in one day on Friday after the Swedish retailer returned the product to the shelves.

The meat ball was sold at just 10 cents per piece in order to mark the return of the product at the company's restaurants. The attractive price pushed up sales as Singaporeans 249,375 meatballs on Friday and this allowed IKEA Singapore to gain an entry into the Singapore Book of Records for the 'Most Number of Meatballs cooked and sold in a day'.

The retailer had suspend the sales of meatballs in Singapore as a precaution for DNA testing after horse meat scandal affected several countries in Europe. The tests were conducted to make sure that the meat balls sold by the retailer do not contain any amount of horsemeat.

Hundreds of customers lined up the company's two restaurants in Singapore to take advantage of the Friday 10 cent per meatball offer. A spokesperson for IKEA Singapore said that the company's Tampines outlet sold more than 78,000 meatballs, while the Alexandra outlet sold about 39,000 pieces. The price of 10 cents was simply too attractive for the customers who usually purchase 10 meatballs for S$5.50 in Singapore
