Income Tax Raid at Two Residences in ChandigarhA raid by the Income Tax Department of Chandigarh, gained them Rs 2.90 crore of cash and ornaments amounted to 20 lakh rupees, from the house of two businessmen in the city.

The department has blocked around 10 bank lockers held by the businesspersons and were due to be opened for further investigation on Monday. The department will reveal about the bank details after the complete inquiry commenced on the two parties.

According to Income Tax Director (Investigation) Y R Saini, the department had raided Director of the Multitech Towers Group, MLA Gaganjit Singh Barnala, also the son of the Governor of Tamil Nadu Surjit Singh Barnala.

Mr. Barnala was absent when his house was raided and as a result, the department locked his residence till the time of raid and then removed the security on Friday.

The Income Tax Department had raided the residence of the two real-estate dealing business owners, one being Multitech towers and the other was Chinar Group. The department raided 16 properties in all, situated in Delhi, Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali. The department had appointed 175 income tax officers for the raid operation. The departments also searched houses of the people associated with the two real-estate groups.
