India demolishes Pak by seven wickets in World T20 opener

team indiaSydney, Mar 22 - Pakistan has failed to break their World Cup jinx against arch-rivals India, which defeated them by seven wickets in their opening World Twenty20 clash on Friday in the Super-10 round at Dhaka.

Leg-spinner Amit Mishra grabbed two wickets for 22 runs in four overs while Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma gave India a flying start with a 54-run opening stand in eight overs as Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men surpassed the modest total of 7-130 with nine deliveries to spare at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Virat Kohli (36 not out) and Suresh Raina (35 not out) steered India to victory in the Group Two match with an unfinished partnership of 66 for the fourth wicket.

Although wicketkeeper-batsman Umar Akmal top-scored for Pakistan with 33 off 30 balls, it was of little help to Pakistan, who failed to cope against a steady Indian attack led by Mishra and Ravindra Jadeja (one for 18).

Pakistan has never beaten India in the 50-over World Cup or the World T20, the report added. (ANI)
