India has recommended Right to Information to the climate change panel in charge of restoring credibility to the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) which has faced severe criticism over the past few months.

India has asked the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to apply the right to seek information on the systems and procedures of the workings of the panel. The country asked the IPCC to make efforts to include researchers from the developing world to access the impacts of climate changes on the planet.

The note from India said that the all reports from the panel must include a chapter incorporating divergent views and the reports should be sent to all skeptics during the review process. It also recommended careful examination of the summary of such reports which influence playmakers around the world.

The note also said that last minute ideas which did not go through proper scrutiny should not be incorporated in the reports. It calls for complete transparency in everything from scientist profiles to all data and assumptions used for running climate models and projections through IPCC website.

The note was prepared by the Union Ministry for Environment and Forests and was sent to the Inter Academy Council. The council has been asked to review the processes and procedures of the IPCC.

The IPCC has faced criticism over the Fourth Assessment Report and a false prediction that the Himalayan glaciers would melt by the year 2035.

It asked for the information collection process should expand to the regions where the information is scarce.
