Indian actors reluctant to head West

Jai-KhannaPanaji, Nov 23 : India has very good talent that can do well in Hollywood, but many actors are reluctant to shift because of lifestyle issues, talent hunters said here Saturday.

“It is also a question of lifestyle,” Jai Khanna, a 15-year veteran at the Brillstein Entertainment Partners, said at the Film Bazar at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here.

Indian actors are aware that they won’t get in the West the lifestyle they are used to here, Khanna said.

Added Caleb Franklin of CAA KWAN Talent Management Pvt Ltd: “It is difficult to go down from celebrity status… You can expect an Indian actor to face a question like ‘Hi, who are you and what do you do?’”

In any case, Indian actors were pretty successful in India.

But Franklin underlined that Hollywood respected talent - and talent from India was more than welcome. This was true for writers too.

“If you have a good script, it doesn’t matter where you are from, what your nationality is. We are looking for people who are special. That is our challenge. That is also our job.” (IANS)
