Jodi Arias Murder Case: Final Sentencing Today

Monday's sentencing will put an end to an almost seven-year-long trial of murderer Jodi Arias. But it is said that the sentencing is no more than a formality as the death penalty option has been removed.

Now, only two options are left with the judge. The judge can either ask the 34-year-old to be eligible for release after 25 years in jail or serve the rest of her life behind bars.

For now, it is not known whether Arias would approach and discuss with Judge Sherry Stephens before she announces the sentence. In 2013, Arias was convicted in the murder of lover Travis Alexander, 30. He was found dead in the shower of his Mesa home in June 2008.

Alexander was shot in the head and was stabbed almost 30 times and his throat was also slit. During investigation, Alexander's friends pointed towards Arias as being likely suspect. Om Alexander's washing machine, photos were also found from a digital camera.

The photos revealed that the murder took place after tryst between Arias and Alexander. The photographs showed each other naked in bed. Arias has photographed Alexander in the shower. One of the photos also showed Alexander's body having blood all over and lying on the floor.

Arias was found to be guilty for first-degree murder. But the jury was not able to reach at a unanimous verdict whether she should be given death penalty or life in prison. In October 2014, a second jury seated to consider the life- or-death sentence.

The second trial continued for nearly five months and it was finalized that death penalty will not be given. As per the state law, Arias cannot be tried again and must be sentenced to life in prison.
