Karunanidhi tightens grip on the eluding fake drug promotersIt was the day of mourning, when a 3-year old girl died of consuming fake drug, which moved the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanidhi. He ordered for a constant vigil over the
pharmaceutical companies; primarily give a warning to those involved in production and distribution of fake and expired drugs.

Further in the high profile meeting, it was the city police and the Chennai Corporation who were given the responsibility to crack a whip on the offenders.

This matter which has considered severe and grabbed attention, invited Karunanidhi back in action. He expressed his concern by stating the need of creating awareness among the public on the
issue, also, blaming the corporation who were trying to wash their hands off the matter. In lieu of this Natarajan has defined three teams to govern the matter.

It was further stated by an official, “Though controlling the drugs and verifying the expiry dates are solely handled by the Controller of Drugs, the civic body’s health department will look into the
issue under the Public Health Act”.
