Killing an alligator that repeatedly crept ashore into an apartment complex's parking lot was the only option

Texas-League-CityThey had no choice but to kill an alligator that repeatedly crept ashore into an apartment complex's parking lot, Texas animal-control officers said.

The Galveston Daily News has reported that a resident of the Signature Point Apartments in League City found the animal in front of the apartments' leasing office April 22, said manager Susan Cogbill.

Game wardens caught the alligator earlier this month at the apartment's parking lot and released it into the canal behind the apartments that connects with a lake.

Capt. Edward Tanuz, Galveston County game warden supervisor said that game wardens believe residents had been feeding the animal, which made it comfortable around people.

The wardens decided not to try releasing the alligator again, but instead killed it.

Tanuz said, "We're in a no-win situation with an animal like this. Putting down animals is a very sensitive issue, and sometimes we have no choice. We try to do it as discreetly and humanely as possible." (With Inputs from Agencies)
