Kishore Kumar's tunes inspire new musical 'Jhumru'

Kishore KumarToronto, June 25 : Remember "Main hun jhum jhum jhum jhum jhumru..."? This popular number and many other such hummable tunes by legendary actor-singer Kishore Kumar, have inspired a new Bollywood musical titled "Jhumru", to be showcased at the Kingdom of Dreams in India, starting October.

"We have started work on a new musical. It's called 'Jhumru', and it is inspired by Kishore Kumar," Viraf Sarkari, director, Wizcraft International Entertainment, co-owners of Kingdom of Dreams, said here.

The musical will be the second to be showcased at Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon, after the success of "Zangoora: The Gypsy Prince". While "Zangoors" is a riveting tale of a gypsy boy who finds out that he is actually a king, the new musical will be comical in genre.

"It's going to be about a young executive, who is a great fan of Kishore Kumar, but he can't sing for nuts. Just to impress a girl, he enters a music contest, and the spirit of Kishore Kumar enters into him. What happens next will form the comical show," added Sarkari.

Kishoreda, as the singer-actor was popularly known, sang some unforgettable numbers like "Paanch rupaiya baara aana", "Zindagi ka safar", "Pal, pal dil ke paas" and "Eena meena deeka" in his career, and proved his versatility every time.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who was present at the time of the announcement, said: "'Jhumru' is one of my favourite retro tracks," and before the audience knew it, the charming actor sang four lines of the song for the international media, inviting a round of cheer and applause.

The news of the new musical comes after officials at Wizcraft, organisers of the ongoing International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend here, announced that "Zangoora: The Gypsy Prince" will be taken on a world tour in 2012.(IANS)
