Kochi was preferred as the first venue for Commonwealth Games National Awareness campaignCommonwealth Games are scheduled at Delhi from October 3 to 14. In order to create awareness for these games, first national awareness campaign was inaugurated in Kerala.

During this inauguration, Kerala sports minister M Vijaykumar said that he is very hopeful for Indian athletes and believe that CWG will setup a huge sporting infrastructure for the country's youth. He also awarded certificates to the children who had participated in a painting competition, which was held on April 3, theme of the competition was related to CWG.

Kerala is the state which has always brought pride for the country and continuing this tradition, the state has already initialize few developments in the sports like introducing Kerala Sports Act, benefiting from Panchayat level.

He also said that since 2008 many improvement activities have been taking place in the state like introduction of 'the total physical fitness' programme in schools, adding sports as a subject in the school curriculum etc.

Jiji Thomson, special director-general, Organising Committee, Commonwealth Games 2010, said that they are finding ways to encourage people across the country to participate in this grand event.

Kochi has been chosen as first venue to create awareness for CWG, by the coordinating and organizing team. CWG organizing committee plans to arrange road shows in different state capitals and key cities during such campaigns.

He further added that by holding such campaigns across the country we are looking forward for a gigantic response from people.

Shear was revealed to the audience as the mascot of the Games.
