Lake Garda a pricey place to park your boat

Lake Garda a pricey place to park your boatMunich  - Mooring fees for recreational motorboats and sailing vessels vary enormously throughout Europe and are at their most expensive on Lake Garda in northern Italy, according to a survey by Germany's largest motoring organisation, the ADAC.

The cost of tying up a boat on Lake Garda for the night averages out at 62 euros (88 dollars) compared to just 11.50 euros (16.30 dollars) in Belgium. The Swiss side of Lake Constance charges skippers 12 euros a night while inland ports in France and Germany generally ask a fee of 13 euros for an overnight stay.

Inland waterways in the Netherlands tend to cost 14 euros nightly with berths along the River Danube in Austria to be had for 14.50 euros.

The ADAC prices are based on the cost of mooring a 10-metre boat with two crew members during the peak summer season. The sum includes local tourist taxes, fresh water, electricity and warm showering facilities. (dpa)
