Last day to buy your Maruti 800
Today i. e. 31st March 2010 will be the last day to buy the Maruti 800 in the 13 major cities. The country's largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki had earlier clarified its intentions of not making the iconic 800 BS-IV compliant as it does not consider it to be a feasible option.
With effect from 1st April as the BS-IV norms will be applicable in the 13 major Indian cities, 800 will not be available for sale.
However, it will still be available in the other parts of the country which will upgrade to BS-III from BS-II.
Maruti 800 started its journey way back in 1983 and was the first product to be rolled out of the Maruti Suzuki's stable. But as the company is currently focusing on more rural sales from the 800, it makes a lot more sense for the company to not make the product BS-IV compliant as most of its sales are coming in from the Tier-III cities.
Notably, Maruti 800 sells an average of 2,500-3,000 units per month for the Company and Alto on an average sells 20,000 units in a month's time.
