New Zealander charged with murder seven years ago
WellingtonĀ - A New Zealand man was charged Friday with the rape and murder of a 23-year-old Auckland hairdresser more than seven years ago, police said.
The man, described as a 51-year-old sickness beneficiary, had his name suppressed when he appeared in court and was remanded in custody until July 2.
Marie Jamieson was last seen alive walking home on February 10 2001. Her body was found behind a suburban factory nine days later.
Police said a DNA sample they had held for the last seven years would form part of the evidence at the man's trial. (dpa)
