At least six die in two accidents on Majorca

At least six die in two accidents on Majorca Palma de Majorca, Spain  - A total of at least six people were killed early Monday when a house collapsed and another caught fire on the Spanish holiday island of Majorca, radio reports said.

Both accidents occurred in the island's capital Palma.

The partial collapse of a three-storey building killed four people while two others were rescued with fairly serious injuries, police said. Rescuers were searching for more victims in the rubble.

In another part of town, a fire erupted in a building, killing two people.

It was thought possible that both accident were caused by gas.

Witnesses reported an explosion in the house that collapsed. Locals attributed the accident partly to the deteriorated condition of the building, which was more than 50 years old. (dpa)
