Mamata’s Rail Budget Comes With ‘Vision 2020’Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the 'Railway Budget 2010' in the parliament even as the opposition parties continued with their objections, saying that her department has come out with 'Vision 2020' to update the railway system.

"I prefer social responsibility to economic responsibility," Mamata said.

She also stated that the railways require catching up with the highly developed western countries, adding that the policy rules would be made simpler and comfortable.

Railways will not be privatized, she said, adding that by 2015, the whole country would be linked by rail.

Banerjee requested the India Inc to set up joint venture with the Railways.

The minister declared that the tests for the employment in Railway would be carried out in the local languages also, adding that English, Hindi, Urdu and other regional languages will be utilized for Railway entrance examinations.

Banerjee also stated that the railway ministry has kept their previous promises and out of 120 trains, which were suggested by the ministry, 107 trains were initiated in time.

She declared that six-bottling points would be set for production of water, which will be supplied, adding that the food that is supplied to the travelers has also bettered over the years.

Village panchayats, infirmaries and court would have an e-ticket counter suggested Banerjee, adding that a railway counter would also be established at the administrative center of the District Magistrate.

Railway is all set to guarantee safety measures, she claimed adding that a 'chowkidaar' would be placed at each and every railway crossing by 2015.

Sanitation of the railway has bettered over the years, claimed Mamata adding that Rs 1302 crores would be expended for the security of travelers.

Railways would also establish five sports academy, she said adding that it would become link partners of the Commonwealth Games. (With Input from Agencies)
