Man Quarantined In Mangalore With Swine Flu Symptoms

swine-fluMangalore has reported its first swine flu case on Tuesday.

After complaining of fever, cough and tiredness, Vishwanath, a resident of Karkala in Udupi District, was shifted to a hospital in Karkala on Sunday.

Thirty-five-year old Vishwanath, who recently came back from Egypt, consulted a physician at a private hospital in Karkala on June 8 following suspected symptoms of the deadly flu.

However, the doctor seeing that his symptoms varied from that of other patients forwarded a sample of man’s blood to the virology department in Bangalore.

Afterward, he was admitted to a private hospital in the city and quarantined.

Dr. H Jagannath, District Health Officer stated, “The patient has only shown the symptoms. We are awaiting the report from Bangalore and Pune.”

“For the time being, it cannot be confirmed as Swine Flu,” Dr. Jagannath added.

If it turns out to be certainly the deadly swine flu, this will be primary reported case of the disease in the state.

What is perhaps worse is that the man has passed through two international airports (Mumbai and Mangalore) to reach his home, the health officials could not identify the case in either airport where advanced equipment have been set up to detect any suspected cases of swine flu.
