Mango Production Soars In HaryanaMango farming is gaining ground in Haryana with its production and area under cultivation going up by around three times in two decades.

Financial Commissioner Roshan Lal stated that the production of mango climbed from 19,900 tonnes in 1990-91 to 64,570 tonnes in the year 2009.

Mr. Roshan Lal attributed the groth to the use of newest technology by agriculturists.

The area under mango production also went up to 9,125 hectares from 3,553 hectares previously.

An extra 250 hectares would be brought under mango plantation during the existing financial year (2010-11).

"In Haryana, mango occupies a prominent position and it is grown in 25 percent of the total area under fruit cultivation. The maximum area under mango cultivation is in Yamunanagar district with 5,419 hectares followed by Ambala, Panchkula, Karnal and Kurukshetra," he added. (With Inputs from Agencies)
