MindTree gives a shock to rivals

MindTreeWhile companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys and Wipro were also in the race to grab the first Rs. 3 crore contract from the Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI), sources confirm that the government has decided to award this contract to the Mid-sized software service provider MindTree.

However, it may be claimed that this deal is very small as compared to the big contracts awarded by the Government over the past few years, but one cannot show back to the fact that this contract holds much importance as it was the first from the door of UIDAI out of the series of projects worth up to $1 billion to be outsourced by the UIDAI.

According to the sources, many of the IT companies were disqualified as they were failing to assure quality permanent staff for the project, a factor that the government considered to be crucial.

Under the terms of the contract, MindTree will be developing an application, which will capture and manage data from different sources including biometric details for the UIDAI.

Moreover, MindTree will also provide maintenance support to the authority.
