Modi advises Sibal not to resort to 'cheap gimmicks

Modi advises Sibal not to resort to 'cheap gimmicksNarendra Modi, a senior leader of BJP and chief minister of Gujarat, on Sunday asked Congress leader and Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal to make honest efforts to deliver the promised tablets to the youths rather than indulging in "cheap gimmicks."

Sibal had promised to provide `Aakash' tablet to ten lakh (one million) youth in the country last year, but the promise is yet to be completed.

Taking a swipe at Sibal over the promised Aakash tablets, Modi said, "

Instead of cheap gimmicks, the minister (Sibal) should first inform the nation on his promise to provide Aakash tablet to 10 lakh (one million) youth in 2011."

Mode added that Sibal should make honest efforts to guarantee delivery of top quality Computing & Access device to the Indian youth.

Modi's sarcastic comments came in response to Sibal's September 28 statement during the roll out of second-generation Akash tablet in New Delhi. Releasing the Akash 2 tablet, Sibal had advised Modi to keep education away from politics. The union HRD minister had also sent the Gujarat CM a couple of Aakash 2 tablets.

Prior to Sibal's September 28 statement, Modi had took a swipe Sibal saying that much-hyped Aakash tablets were yet to come down on earth.

The war of words was triggered by Modi when he condemned the poll promise of Congress to give free laptops to the state's youth if it was voted to power.
