More accusations against ‘noblemen’, this time an ex-bishop sued for alleged abuse

More accusations against ‘noblemen’, this time an ex-bishop sued for alleged abuseThe Canadian Broadcasting Corp. has reported on Thursday that a Canadian man is suing a former Catholic bishop, alleging the cleric sexually abused him in the 1980s.

The CBC further said that Todd Boland claims Raymond Lahey, a former bishop already facing child pornography charges, abused him while he was a resident of the Mount Cashel Orphanage in St. John's.

The Catholic Archdiocese of St John's is also named in Boland's suit in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador. Neither Lahey nor the church has filed a response in court.

It was further reported that Lahey was the bishop of the diocese of Antigonish in Nova Scotia until he resigned last September after authorities in Ottawa allegedly found pornographic images of boys on his laptop computer.

Before moving to Nova Scotia, Lahey was a priest in Newfoundland and Labrador. According to Boland’s claims, the abuse, which included anal intercourse and fondling, occurred several times over a four-year period in the early 1980s.

Greg Stack, Boland's attorney, told the CBC, "At the time, Monsignor Lahey would take him for an outing, as members of the clergy sometimes did, and that's when the abuse allegedly occurred." (With Inputs from Agencies)
