More cars expected to run on alternative fuel
After GM launched its Aveo in the CNG version last week, it is believed that more automakers will be launching their products in the CNG & LPG range to boost the sales of the product. It has been seen that the consumer is attracted towards the company-fitted offerings of CNG & LPG kits.
However, the auto majors in the Indian market do not reveal separate figures for the CNG models but it is believed that a CNG model contributes close to 5-10% to the total sales of the model in the Indian market.
Currently, products that are available with the CNG variant are Corolla Altis, Accent, Santro et al. In fact, the country's largest automaker Maruti Suzuki is also planning to bring an alternative fuel product in every segment.
Moreover, GM is also working on its plan of launching the LPG version of the Beat. The Spark which also sells on LPG gives around 7% to the total volumes of the product.
GM India is also working on its plan to launch the electric Spark in partnership with Reva by the end of this year.
