Reliance Industries head, Mukesh Ambani has emerged as the richest Indian in the world in the Forbes list of billionaires.

Mukesh Ambani emerged as the richest among the 48 Indian billionaires. The top ten in the country includes Savitri Jindal and family, Sunil Mittal and family, Kumar Birla, Anil Ambani, Dilip Shanghvi, Shashi and Ravi Ruia and Kushal Pal Singh.

Mukesh Ambani was ranked as the 19th richest person in the world in the list, which was topped by Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim for the third year. Mr. Slim has an estimated fortune of $69 billion.

Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft and philanthropist remained on the second spot with a net worth of $61 billion. US investment expert and head of the Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate, Warren Buffett also held on to his third spot on the list with a net worth of $44 billion.

India's steel giant, Lakshmi Mittal was the second richest Indian in the world but was the biggest looser in the previous year. More than a third of all the world's billionaires have seen their net worth fall in the previous year. Wipro chairman Azim Premji with a net worth of $15.9 billion was named the third richest Indian in the country.
