New Diet Pepsi to be available from this Week

PepsiCo is coming up with a revamped Diet Pepsi that will not have aspartame and would be having another artificial sweetener Splenda. As per the company, the new Diet Pepsi will be available across the nation this week.

With the rollout of the new drink, a theory will be tested that the sweetener is to be blamed for not having soda drinks or other factors are involved in it. A decline has been witnessed in the sales of traditional diet sodas.

Other companies including Diet Coke, Diet Dr Pepper and Fanta Zero have not eliminated aspartame. Industry executives were of the view that the decline could be due to the concerns people have about aspartame.

There are chances that Diet Pepsi will witness a rise in its sales due to the omission of aspartame. The drink’s marketing strategy will include in-store sampling and discounting in coming weeks. Seth Kaufman, a senior vice president at PepsiCo, said that when it comes to taste, the drink will be familiar to fans of Diet Pepsi.

It is not the first time that PepsiCo has made efforts to increase sales of the drink. In 2012, it tried to improve the sales by combining aspartame with acesulfame potassium, another artificial sweetener. The new cans will be having markings, ‘Now Aspartame Free’, above the Pepsi circle logo.

Susan Kasik-Miller, registered dietitian with HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, said that soda is something to be had once in a while and not on daily basis.
