Nintendo slashes original Wii cost by $50 before Wii U’s November releaseWith Nintendo set to release its new Wii U gaming console in November, the company revealed in an announcement on Monday that it is slashing the cost of its original Wii console by $50; with the result that he console will now cost $130.

In addition to dropping the cost of the original Wii console at a time when the Wii U is scheduled to hit the markets in nearly one month, Nintendo has also made the Wii more attractive by bringing on more accessories for the gaming system, which will now be available with the Nunchuk controller and an all-black Wii Remote, as well as Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort on a single disc.

According to the Nintendo announcement, the $130-priced old Wii package will arrive at the stores immediately, though it will become "widely available" from October 28 onwards.

With the drop in the original Wii's cost coming ahead of this year's holiday shopping season, Scott Moffitt - the Executive VP of Slaes & Marketing at Nintendo of America - said in a statement that even though it has been six years since the Wii console was first launched in 2006, gamers are "still attracted to the pure, inclusive fun" of the gaming system.

About the $130-priced old Wii package, Moffitt said the slashed price and the inclusion of two popular titles will make the console "an easy choice for families looking for a great value this holiday season."
