No decision on Rahul for PM issue: Dwivedi

Janardan-DwivediNew Delhi, July 13 : Countering his colleague Digvijaya Singh's statement that the party would not name Rahul Gandhi its prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 polls, Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi Saturday said it was his personal opinion and the party had not taken any decision.

"Individuals may have their personal opinion but on such issues, the final decision is taken by the party only," Dwivedi told reporters to queries if the Congress had decided on its prime ministerial candidate.

According to Dwivedi, the Congress had made its position clear in January this year, when Rahul Gandhi was named as vice president at the Jaipur conclave, that the party would decide on the campiagn and leadership issue later on.

"No time frame was announced for this," he said.

Digvijaya Singh had said recently that the party will not name Rahul Gandhi as its prime ministerial nominee ahead of the 2014 polls.

In the past, Rahul Gandhi has said many times that the issue of his becoming prime minister was not relevant and that his focus was strengthening the party.(IANS)
