DirecTV launches its new ‘Genie’ HD DVR

DirecTV launches its new ‘Genie’ HD DVR Leading satellite operator DirecTV has recently launched its multi-room HD DVR, the `Genie', which is the most advanced and intuitive HD DVR in the industry; and is capable of recording up to five TV channels in HD simultaneously.

With the Genie boasting the addition of an automatic-recommendation feature which records shows based on the preferences of the subscribers, DirecTV is touting the fact that the five tuners and recommendation features of its new HD DVR outshine the three-tuner Hopper DVR from Dish Network.

In addition, another leading edge that the DirecTV Genie has over its Dish Network rival is that it does not have the controversial automatic ad-skipping feature of the Hopper. Moreover, Genie has 1 Terabyte of storage, vis-a-vis the Hopper's 2 TB storage capacity.

With a whole new suite of thrilling TV viewing capabilities, the Genie's five-show HD recording capacity is up to three times more than that of the cable HD DVRs; and it also offers a full HD DVR experience on all TV sets in a house, sans the need of a separate receiver boxes in each room.

Noting that the DirecTV Genie promises "a simple and magical television experience," Romulo Pontual - Executive VP and CTO of DirecTV - said in a statement: "We simply asked consumers what they wished for in the perfect television experience and then set out to develop as many of those features as possible in our new flagship HD DVR."
