NSW Government predicts the population of Sydney suburbs to cross 6 million in next 25 years

The New South Wales government said today that it expects the population of Sydney suburbs to cross the mark of 6 million people in next 25 years, while the population of Sydney’s CBD and inner city areas are projected to grow by 60% in the period. The Government also predicted the population of the state to cross the 9 million mark by the year 2036.

A recent research by the Department of Planning showed that some Sydney suburbs will see a 200% rise and some will grow as much as 400% in next 25 years.

The department forecasted that the Camden local area in south west zone of Sydney will see a 390% growth in its population, while the Liverpool and Burwood regions are both likely to grew by more than 70% in next 25 years. The Department of Planning said that the expected growth in population is mainly attributable to the massive development projects in Sydney.

However, Tony Kelly, the NSW Planning Minister, expects that the predicted population increase will also help the state's regional economy. He said that the additional population will need more necessary infrastructures such as new roads and housing projects and it will lead the state to widened economy in future.
