One more arrested in rape case of four tribal girls

orissaOne more person was arrested in connection with alleged rape of four tribal girls of a government-run school in Orissa's Nabarangpur district, even as medical examination of all accused and the victims were completed today.

Raj Mohan Bhotra, an employee of Sevashram school run by Tribal Welfare Department at Bada Aambada village under Kosagumuda Block was arrested, while three others including school headmaster Pradipta Sahu had been held yesterday after a lady teacher of the school lodged a complaint alleging that they had raped four students of the school, police said.

All four accused were produced before a local court and sent to jail after rejection of their bail plea. The four accused as well as the girls were taken to the District Hospital here and their medical examination completed.

Meanwhile, the director of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe department rushed to Nabarangpur look into the matter and ensure proper monitoring of action, sources said.

District Collector Roopa Mishra, issued a show cause notice to the Block Development Officer of Kosagumnda Block, Dhanjaya Hembram, asking him to explain within 24 hours why he had not acted on an earlier complaint lodged by a lady teacher regarding sexual abuse of the hostel inmates.

The Collector also issued another notice to District Welfare Officer, Mukunda Nial, who is overall in-charge of the school asking him to submit a comprehensive report of hostel management.
