Opposition parties demand Chidambaram as witness in JPC 2G meetOpposition parties have intensified their demand for calling Finance Minister P Chidambaram as a witness in the next meeting of the JPC on 2G issue on Thursday.

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has already said that she will not intervene in the matter and JPC Chairman PC Chacko will now have to take a decision. The Speaker has informed Chacko that the Committee has to first take a decision on the issue before approaching her in the matter

BJP has demanded that both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram be called for deposition as witnesses in the case. Other parties including Left parties and BSP are demanding the presence of Chidamaram alone as witness. Yashwant Sinha has written a letter to Mr. Chacko informing him of the decision of the party to stay away from the meeting.

Some BJP leaders have also expressed apprehension over the proposed presence of former Additional Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs Sindhushree Khullar at the meeting. BJP party members had walked out of meetings of JPC on August 22 and September 18 earlier. The party members had accused Chacko of being biased towards Congress party and also accused Congress members of using foul language.

Left leader Sitaram Yechury has also demanded the presence of Chidambaram before JPC after RBI Governor D Subbarao was called for deposition in the case.
