Paes-Cara clinch Australian Open title

Leander Paes Cara BlackIndia's Leander Paes and his Zimbabwean partner Cara Black have won the mixed doubles title in the Australian Open after defeating Ekaterina Makarova of Russia and  Jaroslav Levinsky of Czech Republic on Sunday.

The top seeded Indo-Zimbabwean pair registered straight set victory over the unseeded pair of Ekaterina and Jaroslav 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and eight minutes in the final to win their second Grand Slam title at the Melbourne Park.

Paes has now won 11 Grand Slam titles including five mixed doubles titles and six men’s doubles titles and he has also equaled his compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi who has also won 11 Grand Slam doubles titles.

Speaking to the media, Cara said that Paes had promised her that they would certainly win the mixed doubles title in Australian Open and he has kept his promise by winning the title now.

Paes admiring Cara said that she is very intelligent and sensitive woman and she gives her best every time she comes out on the court. He added that he likes to make friends and winning Grand Slam titles with these friends is fantastic.
