Paes-Cara duo runner-up in US mixed doubles

India’s Leander Paes and Cara Black of Zimbabwe failed to overcome last hurdle in their way of US Open mixed doubles crown as they went down to Carly Gullickson and Travis Parrott of US in the final on the Arthur Ashe court at Flushing Meadows on Friday.

The top seeded and defending champions Paes-Cara were upset by the unseeded US pair in straight sets 6-2 6-4. Paes-Cara looked off color in the match and they committed many unforced errors.

The serve of Paes-Cara was broken thrice in the first set and US wild card pair cashed upon these breakpoint opportunities to win the first set and take lead in the match. The first set lasted for just 27 minutes.

Second set also witnessed Paes and Cara's misery as they were again broken twice in third and seventh game. The US pair wrapped up the match in one hour and six minutes. The US duo won cash reward of US $150,000 while the runner-up duo of Paes-Cara received prize money of US $70,000.
