Pakistan in a ‘easy’ group for 2009 Twenty20 World Cup

Karachi, Nov 1 : Pakistan has got a relatively easy group in the second edition of the Twenty20 World Cup to be held in 2009 in England.

Pakistan, which featured in the T20 final in Johannesburg on September 24, will face England and an ICC associate nation in Group B of the tournament.

The groups were announced by the ICC after a meeting of its Executive Board in Dubai.

The board carried out a discussion on the groupings of the 2009 Twenty20 World Championship following a request by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The board reached the conclusion that enough matches not have been played in this format at the international level, the only way to determine the groupings at this stage is through the finishing positions in 2007 Twenty20 World Cup held in South Africa.

India beat Pakistan in the final of the tournament and has been placed in an easy Group A with Test minnows Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. (ANI)
