PC allocates Rs49,000 crore to Maharashtra for annual planThe Planning Commission of India has allocated a sum of whooping Rs. 49,000 crore to the state of Maharashtra for its annual plan and the state will receive an additional Rs. 31,500 crore as public sector enterprises
(PSE) plan.

Montek Singh Ahluwalia, deputy chairman, Planning Commission praised the state for its work in reducing poverty and said state has been performing well recently. The state has recorded an annual growth of 8.6 per cent against the target of 9.1 per cent in the 11th plan period. The data showed that the poverty ratio has fallen 13.7 per cent from 24.5 per cent in Maharashtra in 2009-10 from 2004-05.

The per capita income in the state stood at Rs. 64,951, during the financial year 2011-12. The industry sector has gown a growth rate of 8.1 per cent during 11th Five-Year Plan against the target of 8 per cent. The growth in industry in the state has been higher than the national average at 7.2 during the period. The Planning Commission is aiming to encourage entrepreneurs in the micro, small and medium enterprises sector to take advantage of the Central Sector Schemes.

"Concerted efforts are needed to further improve the literacy rate and eliminate gender and social gap in school enrolment by the end of 12th Five-Year Plan by ensuring that educational opportunities are available to all segments of the society," said a release issued by the Planning Commission.
