Probe sought against Altamas Kabir

Altamas-KabirLucknow, July 19 : A city-based activist and a lawyer Friday shot off a letter to the chief justice of India (CJI), seeking a probe into various allegations levelled against former CJI Altamas Kabir.

In their letter, Ashok Pandey and Nutan Thakur have demanded that a probe be ordered into Justice Altamas Kabir's role in the alleged leakage of an order passed on his last day in office.

The duo have cited an article 'Into the Darkness' by Gopal Sankaranarayanan, an advocate with the apex court, published on the website Bar and Bench at 8:36 a. m. Thursday.

Justice Altamas Kabir demitted office of CJI Thursday July 18.

Meghalaya High Court will integrate customs, legal system: CJI

Altamas-KabirShillong, March 25 : Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir Monday said the opening of a high court in Meghalaya will help integrate the different traditional laws and customs of the state together with the legal system of mainstream India.

"There are different systems prevalent here, which need to be integrated, and with the coming into operation of the new high court here, I think it will go a long way in fulfilling these aspirations," Kabir said, after inaugurating the Meghalaya High Court.

Delay in delivery of justice a major challenge: CJI

Altamas-Kabir1Ahmadabad, Feb 18 : Emphasizing on the urgent need to expedite the wheels of justice, Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir said a major problem being faced in delivery of criminal justice was delay and the entire process takes almost 15-16 years.

Delivering Justice P. D. Desai memorial lecture here on Sunday on `Administration of Criminal Justice', Justice Kabir said: "Today a major problem is delay where the entire process, from the time when an offence is registered to the stage of final conviction, takes almost 15 to 16 years."

CJI expresses concerns over Delhi smog

CJI expresses concerns over Delhi smogChief Justice of India Altamas Kabir has expressed concerns over the smog cover in the national capital, Delhi and said that the courts might consider taking actions over the issue.

While speaking in Bhopal, he said that the problem of smog is intensifying by each passing day and the steps will be taken to deal with the matter. He made the remarks during a hearing on disposal of the Bhopal gas tragedy waste at the infamous Union Carbide plant in the capital city of Madhya Pradesh state.
