Amarinder seeks contingency plan for agricultureAmritsar: Expressing concern over the drought-like situation prevailing in Punjab in view of "poor" monsoon, Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha and Amritsar MP Amarinder Singh on Monday asked the state government to draw up a contingency plan to save agriculture.

Singh, in a statement here, suggested that the government should order timely assessment of losses to farmers so that they can be adequately compensated.

Amarinder, who defeated senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley by a margin of over one lakh votes in Amritsar, alleged Partap Singh Bajwa and his brother Fateh Bajwa tried to sabotage his campaign and that they had specifically visited the city to convince the people to oppose him.

A five-judge constitution bench headed by chief justice KG Balakrishnan declined to grant any interim relief to Singh, expelled last September from the House for alleged involvement in the Amritsar land scam. "We are not inclined to pass any interim order," the bench said, declining the plea to allow Singh to participate in assembly proceedings without the right to vote.

Amarinder SinghChandigarh, Sept 15 : A Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the custodial interrogation of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh in connection with a graft case registered by the State’s Vigilance Bureau.

Justices Adarsh Goel and Ajay Tewari also issued notices to the Punjab Assembly through its Secretary and directed him to file the reply on or before October 31.

Last week, the Bench had reserved its judgment on Singh''s plea seeking a stay in the case and on his expulsion from the Punjab Legislative Assembly.

former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder SinghLudhiana, Dec 24: A court in Ludhiana has issued summons to former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and 34 others in connection with a multi-crore Ludhiana City Centre (LCC) scam.

District Sessions Judge G K Rai issued summons for January 10 to all. No summon was issued against former Chairman of Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) P S Sibia, who is absconding.

Amarinder and others have been charged under various sections of the under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act, relates to the LCC.
