Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, April 28 : BJP leader Arun Jaitley Monday accused Congress president Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of lowering the "quality of political discourse".

"(Priyanka Gandhi) Vadra has announced that she is not afraid of anyone. She has compared the BJP to 'the panic-stricken rats'... She has lowered the quality of political discourse by her comments," Jaitley said in a blog published Monday.

"Language provides a facility where even sharp comments can be made in a dignified manner," he said.

"It is for the investigating and judicial process to find out the truth.  Why has captain Amarinder Singh become the 'Devil's Advocate' and decided to offer a clean chit to Jagdish Tytler? Is he trying to prejudge the guilt of a person who is perceived to be involved in the riots? Is personal and political relationship more important to the Captain than the interest of the victims?" said Jaitley in his blog.

"It would be a gross political impropriety and violation of the code of conduct if the UPA would rush through its appointment at this stage. Besides this, the procedure is legally a suspect. Such unholy haste will destroy the credibility of the Lokpal even before it is formed," Jaitley wrote on his blog.

Arun-JaitleyAmritsar, Apr 18 : Addressing rallies in Amritsar District's Dhariwal, Bachiwind and Chogawan Villages on Friday, Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) candidate Arun Jaitley praised the spirit of farmers for sacrificing their produce and earnings for the cause of the nation.

Jaitley, who travelled to the border areas to get a feel about farmer-related concerns, used his visit to these areas to express his solidarity with them and promised them full co-operation and compensation should he be elected by them.

He criticised the central government on the issue of stopping the compensation scheme started by the Atal Behari Vajpayee Government.

His main opponent, the Congress' Amarinder Singh, has told the poll panel that the cost of the house be added to the election expenses of the BJP candidate.

Jaitley's response to the controversy was guarded, though he hit out at Amarinder Singh for his "unbeatable capacity to singularly lower the level of political discourse" and sought to know if people would have go to his place in Patiala to meet him.

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, March 11 : BJP leader Arun Jaitley Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court directive on expeditious trial in criminal cases involving elected representatives, saying "it was a step in the right direction".

"Criminalisation of politics has been a very serious issue confronting Indian polity. The malady has been that people with criminal track record and pending charge sheets are fielded by political parties," Jaitley said on his blog.

"We are creating an institution of Lokpal for the first time, and we are doing this after 40 years of long struggle. So, we must bring in the most competent people for the Lokpal panel," said Jailtey.

Rahul late entrant on anti-graft plank: BJP

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, Feb 22 : Calling Rahul Gandhi a late entrant on the anti-corruption plank, the Bharatiya Janata Party Saturday said the Congress vice president should have spoken on the issue much earlier.

"He (Rahul) is a late entrant and he should have spoken on the anti-graft bills much earlier," said Arun Jaitley, leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

After the 15th Lok Sabha's last session Friday, Gandhi has accused the BJP of blocking passage of anti-graft bills in parliament.

BJP has however rejected the charge saying it was members of the Congress who disrupted parliament proceedings. (IANS)

Mr.  Jaitley said that implementing a single tax would not be easy for the government to implement due to the federal structure of the country.

He hoped the gains made by India of stemming efforts to internationalise the Kashmir problem were not squandered.

He said the prime minister revealed for the first time that secret envoys from India and Pakistan had almost arrived at a meeting to resolve the conflict on Kashmir.

"In 2002, hydropower projects were allotted to a few companies in Himachal Pradesh. Out of them Venture Energy and technology private limited defaulted in the project execution, due to which their contract was canceled. In a series of tweets following the verdict by an Ahmedabad court, Jaitley said popular sanction for Modi, who is also the prime ministerial candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has been buttressed by the judicial verdict which has accepted his exoneration by the SIT.

"In any case... we are extremely keen that the Lokpal bill should be passed... that is why I have given a notice for the suspension of the question hour and suspend all other business as credibility of the system is at stake. So, the first thing is to pass the Lokpal bill," Arun Jaitley told reporters outside parliament.

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, Dec 10 : BJP leader Arun Jaitley Tuesday took a dig at the Congress over NCP chief Sharad Pawar's remarks blaming weak leadership for the Congress debacle in the four Hindi heartland states.

Noting that the Congress had criticised senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L. K. Advani when he had said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was the weakest prime minister in history, he said that similar remarks had now come from a Congress ally.

"When Advaniji said that Dr Singh is the weakest PM in history, he was criticized. Now Sharad Pawar says Congress lost due to weak leaders," Jaitley tweeted.

Response to terror attacks woefully slow: Jaitley

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, Nov 25 : BJP leader Arun Jaitley Monday accused the central and some state governments of "linking the battle against terror to vote bank considerations" and said the response to terror attacks was still "woefully slow".

In a post on social networking site facebook, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said there was need to introspect after five years of the 2008 terror attack in Mumbai.

The attack, which started Nov 26 and ended three days later, left 166 people dead.

Tejpal should face criminal trial: Jaitley

Arun-JaitleyNew Delhi, Nov 22 : BJP leader Arun Jaitley said Friday that some participants in television debates had provided Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal with an escape route after allegations of sexual assault were made against him by a colleague.

Jaitley said suggestions that the victim had the choice of refraining from pursuing a criminal investigation were akin to offering the offender an escape route.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader, who has also been a lawyer in the Supreme Court, asserted that both a departmental inquiry and the trial must go together.
