Electric shock therapy helped Carrie Fisher beat the blues

Carrie FisherWashington, Dec 11 : American actress Carrie Fisher has revealed that she had to undergo drastic electric shock therapy to cope up with depression.

After years of battling with alcohol and drug addiction, the 52-year-old star suffered severe bouts of depression that no course of medicine could cure.

"I didn''t want to do it for years. They wanted me to do it before, because I was in a depression, which was medication proof,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

Fisher, 52, who had spoken out publicly of her long-running battle with a variety of addictions, revealed that her family called in their celebrity friends to help in her battle with drugs.

She also revealed an episode in which her father was so sure she was taking narcotics that he convinced the late Cary Grant to give her some advice.

The actress revealed in her new book ‘Wishful Drinking’ that it was the most humiliating experience ever.

Washington, Sept 20 : Bette Midler and Carrie Fisher have signed up to star in "The Women".

Also joining the cast are Cloris Leachman, Joanna Gleason, Lynn Whitfield, Debi Mazar and Ana Gasteyer.

The stars will now be joining the already confirmed cast of Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Candice Bergen, reports Variety.

The Diane English-directed pic has Ryan, Bening, Mendes, Messing, Pinkett-Smith and Bergen play friends who discover the pal they envied most is being cheated on by her husband.
