Manhattan, Apr 28 : The head of the US Central Command, General David Petraeus, has said that insurgents and the Taliban have been able to regroup and find safe havens in Pakistan's tribal areas along the Afghanistan border.

He said that a comprehensive approach is required to win the war in Afghanistan, with support from the NATO and Pakistan.

Addressing a function here, General Petraeus said: "The enemy is resilient and as is the case has sanctuary across the border and is able to reconstitute itself."

Washington, Apr. 25 : The commander of US forces in the Middle East has claimed that the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group is planning to carry out more attacks similar to one launched on Mumbai in November last year.

The Daily Times quoted CENTCOM chief General David Petraeus as telling lawmakers here: "We should observe that the Lashkar-e-Taiba, the group that carried out the Mumbai attacks, we think they're trying to do more damage and they're trying to carry out additional attacks."

Lahore, Apr. 16 : US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief General David Petraeus, has said that the presence of extremists outfits such as Al Qaeda on Pakistan's soil pose `an ever more serious threat to its very existence'.

In an interview to the Philadelphia Inquirer, General Petraeus said the US policy's prime focus was on Afghanistan and Pakistan, because of the presence Al-Qaeda in the tribal regions of Pakistan.

Washington, Apr. 2: General David Petraeus, the top US commander in the Middle East, has told the US Congress that Israel could take matters into its own hands vis-à-vis Iran, should that country go ahead with its plans on the nuclear front.

"The Israeli government may ultimately see itself so threatened by the prospect of an Iranian nuclear weapon that it would take preemptive military action to derail or delay it," The Jerusalem Post quoted General Petraeus, as saying.

Washington, Apr. 2 : Expressing serious concern over the rising extremism in the country, the US Central Command chief General David Petraeus has said that religious extremists operating along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border pose a direct threat to Pakistan's existence.

Washington  - The situation in Afghanistan is deteriorating and the country's Taliban and al-Qaeda insurgency are gaining strength, the top US commander for the region warned Wednesday as the US prepares to send thousands more troops to Afghanistan.

General David Petraeus, head of US Central Command, said in congressional testimony that insurgents had expanded their control over the southern and eastern parts of the country but vowed they would be fought "aggressively and relentlessly" by US forces.
