Japan ready to give fillip to roads, infrastructure in north east

Fumio KishidaNew Delhi, Jan. 18 - Japan is ready to invest in building roads and infrastructure in India's landlocked northeast, excluding the state of Arunachal Pradesh, said Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida here over the weekend.

China is in dispute with India over the state of Arunachal Pradesh, calling it south Tibet, especially Tawang, a key site for Tibetan Buddhism. The historic town briefly fell into Chinese hands during the 1962 war before Beijing retreated. However, New Delhi regards it an integral part of India.

Sushma Swaraj meets Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida

Sushma SwarajNew Delhi, Jan 17 : External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met her Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida here today.

The two ministers were expected to deliberate on a range of key issues including firming up of a deal on defence equipment cooperation and production of amphibious long-range aircraft US-2 besides addressing issues relating to long-pending civil nuclear agreement.

Earlier on Friday, Kishida called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed issues of mutual interest. (ANI)

Japan pledges $150 mn for Uttarakhand flood relief

Fumio-KishidaNew Delhi, Nov 12 : Japan Tuesday pledged to provide $150 million towards reconstruction efforts in Uttarakhand in the wake of devastating floods that hit the Himalayan state in June this year.

This was announced at a meeting between External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on the sidelines of the Asia-Europe Meeting.

Japan, S. Korea urge DPRK not to carry out nuclear test

Shin-Kaksoo-Fumio-KishidaTokyo, Jan 30 : Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean Ambassador to Japan Shin Kak-soo met Wednesday and agreed to work closely to urge the Democratic People ''s Republic of Korea
(DPRK) not to carry out nuclear test, Japan''s Foreign Ministry said.

Kishida said in the meeting that it is necessary for Japan and South Korea to work together to dissuade the DPRK from carrying out its third nuclear test.

Shin said South Korea will cooperate with Japan and the United States to urge the DPRK drop its nuclear test plan.
