Antony visits forward areas in J-K, lauds Army’s roleSrinagar, Apr 27: Defence Minister A. K. Antony on Monday visited the forward areas of Jammu and Kashmir under the White Knight Corps, and said that the Army’s vigilance and proactive stance had ensured incident free elections in the state.

During his visit, Antony addressed the troops at the Raina Auditorium in Rajouri, where he lauded the role of the Indian Army in curbing infiltration and reducing the levels of insurgency.

Antony, who chaired a high-level meeting of officials of various ministries and forces, called for speedy implementation of the maritime security plan, approved by the Government recently.

He said utmost vigilance must be maintained all along the coastline so that the `Mumbai like' incidents don't recur.

Congress-NCP will contest polls together in Maharashtra: AntonyNew Delhi, Mar 23 : Congress leader and Union Defence Minister A. K. Antony on Monday announced that his party and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) would contest the general elections together in Maharashtra.

In a seat-sharing arrangement, the Congress will contest 26 seats while the NCP will try its luck in 22 parliamentary constituencies.

Antony, who is also the Congress in-charge in the state, said both the parties would also explore the possibility of exchange of seats between them in the state.
