Home Secretary assures adequate security against NaxalsNew Delhi, Apr 23 : Consequent to a couple of attacks by Maoists which disrupted the first and second stages of elections to the Lok Sabha, Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta assured that the subsequent three phases of polls will be secure, free and fair.

"The objective of having a free and successful democratic process was achieved and that will be achieved in subsequent phases also. Lets us not try to give a larger than life image (to the Naxals)," said Gupta.

Home Secretary holds video conference with states on IPL

New Delhi, Mar 13 : Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta held video conference with senior officials of the states where Indian Premier League (IPL) matches are scheduled to be played in April-May following their demand for central forces to host the cricketing tournament.

Gupta held consultations with seven states including Delhi, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal.

During the 90-minute video conference, the states have again told the Home Ministry that it was not possible to hold the matches without additional security personnel from the central grid.

India, Nepal Home Secretary level talks to begin today

New Delhi, Oct 31 : The Home Secretary-level talks between India and Nepal will be held here today.

The Indian delegation will be led by Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta and Nepalese delegation by their Home Secretary Govinda Prasad Kusum.

The two sides will discuss a broad range of issues relating, inter-alia, to security, border management, and training and capacity-building of officials or police in Nepal.

Effective cooperation for combating terrorist activities and trans-border crimes will be high on the agenda.

The two sides will also review the progress in implementing the decisions arrived at the last Secretary-level talks held on September 25 in Kathmandu.

Union Home Ministry reviews Assam situation

ULFANew Delhi, July 24 : The Union Home Ministry today in detail reviewed the situation in Assam.

At a high level meeting taken by Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta here today, the security situation in Assam was reviewed in detail.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary and DGP of Assam, Special Secretary (IS) in Ministry of Home Affairs, senior officers of the CRPF and BSF and representatives of the Ministry of Defence.

The meeting took stock of the situation, arising out of the unilateral declaration of ceasefire by some ULFA cadres.

Home Secretary reviews land transactions in Rajasthan’s border areas

This was a follow up meeting on the decisions taken and directions given in the Union Home Secretary’s earlier meeting held in February 2008.

Media and others reported large-scale land transactions in the border areas of Rajasthan. Senior state government, security and enforcement agencies officials attended today’s meeting.
