Rahul right in equating AGP with insurgents: GogoiGuwahati, May 30 : Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi Thursday said that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi was right in accusing the AGP of having links with the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA).

"What Rahul Gandhi had said is 100 percent true. The AGP had links with the ULFA, and everybody knows that. They (AGP) are actually the cousins of ULFA," Gogoi told a press conference here.

Asked for evidence to prove the link, Gogoi said: "I have evidence to prove the allegations but I am not bound to disclose it now."

Rahul Gandhi visiting parched Maharashtra

Gandhi was scheduled to visit the state Monday. However, his visit was postponed due to the Maoist attack on party leaders in Chhattisgarh Saturday in which about 30 people, including two senior leaders, were killed. (IANS)

The event began with a prayer meeting. The gathering then observed silence for two minutes and offered floral tributes to the slain leaders.

The 45-minute prayer meeting was organised on the lawns on the Congress headquarters.

Indicating the mood in the party, Congress general secretary Janardan Dwiwedi said: "We are both sad and angry."

A section of the Congress has been in favour of exploring ways to form a government in the state with the support of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), said party sources here.

However, the opinion was divided on the formation of a government in Jharkhand and polls to the state assembly could well be announcedm, the sources said.

"The party is my priority. I believe in long--term politics," Gandhi was quoted by TV channels as saying in Delhi.

"I am not interested in becoming the prime minister," he was quoted as saying.

Gandhi, who is the second-in-command in the Congress, told reporters there was a need to end the "high command culture" in the party.

The entire nation joined together to mourn the death of the 23-year-old girl, who died in a Singapore hospital on Saturday after fighting for life for 12 days.

The girl breathed her last at 2:15 am India time at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. She was earlier treated at the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
