Menon, Prachanda discuss Indo-Nepal agreement

Shiv Shanker MenonKathmandu, Feb 17 : Visiting Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon today met Nepal Prime Minister Prachanda and discussed the progress made on agreements signed during Prachanda's last visit to India.

Kantipur quoted Foreign Affairs Advisor Hira Bahadur Thapa as saying that Prachanda also inquired about the Noumure Hydropower project to be constructed by India.

In response, Menon said the construction of the dam is underway.

Shivshankar MenonNew Delhi - Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon has said Pakistan's spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence was linked to the perpetrators of the Mumbai terrorist attacks, an official statement said Thursday.

"The perpetrators planned, trained and launched their attacks from Pakistan, and the organizers were and remain clients and creations of the ISI," Menon said in a speech in Paris as reported in New Delhi.

This is the first time the Indian government has directly named the Pakistani agency over the Mumbai carnage in which 173 people including 26 foreign nationals were killed.

Menon to arrive in Colombo tomorrowNew Delhi, Jan 14 : Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon will arrive in Colombo tomorrow to hold meetings with Sri Lanka''s top leadership.

During his two-day visit, Menon will meet Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama and other senior officials.

Menon is also expected to meet Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Earlier, a Sri Lankan lawmakers delegation belonging to the Tamil National Alliance Party, appealed to the Tamil Nadu and Indian Governments to intervene in the military offensive against the separatist Tamil Tiger rebels in the island nation.

India ready for stronger nuclear cooperation with Russia: Menon

"Both India and Russia are keen to expand nuclear cooperation. All the preparatory work has been done", Menon said, inaugurating an international conference on "Changing Patterns of Indo-Russian Cooperation" at Observer Research Foundation.

India summons Lankan envoy over violence against ethnic TamilsNew Delhi, Oct 17 : Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon today summoned Sri Lankan High Commissioner C R Jayasinghe to convey India''s concerns over Sri Lankan army’s offensive against ethnic Tamils in the island nation.

According to reports, Menon told Jayasinghe that Sri Lanka should take steps to address India''s concerns over humanitarian situation there and stop killing and harassment of Indian fishermen.
