Sushma holds meeting over upcoming Hajj pilgrimage

Sushma-SwarajNew Delhi, June 23 : External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj held a meeting over the upcoming Haj pilgrimage and promised to bring improvement in facilities for the pilgrims.

She also said that she would request Saudi Arabia to withdraw 20 per cent cut in India's quota for the annual pilgrimage.

Swaraj further said that accommodation for pilgrims is a major issue and added that there was a need to think about a long-term solution to the issue. (ANI)

Sushma Swaraj to meet Russian Deputy PM tomorrow

Sushma-SwarajNew Delhi, June 17 : In the first interaction between India and the Russian Federation, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will meet visiting Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry O. Rogozin tomorrow, official sources said.

According to the sources, India and Russia have a special and privileged strategic partnership and Mr. Rogozin's visit is in the context of high level bilateral contacts and intense dialogues on priority areas of bilateral cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister Rogozin will be in India on June 18 and 19,2014.

"India selected Bhutan because it is one of our important neighbours, and certainly the friendliest country. This visit has been extremely successful and satisfying. It has reinforced and further strengthened relations between India and Bhutan. In spite of being a very short visit, the Prime Minister could interact with the legislator, judiciary and executive, all the three wings of democracy," said Swaraj at a press conference here today.

Sushma Swaraj assumes charge as External Affairs Minister

Addressing media outside South Block, Swaraj said talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and SAARC leaders were very successful.

Swaraj also said that Modi had told Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that terrorism was the first issue that needs to be tackled before holding dialogues.

She said, "The PM told Nawaz Sharif that bomb attacks won't let us hear each other out. Terrorism has to be tackled on a priority basis."

Sushma Swaraj, who is said to be no Modi camp follower, in a tweet said: "This victory is the result of hard labour of millions of BJP 'karyakartas', blessings of (Rashtriya Swayamsewak) Sangh and able leadership of Narendra Modi."

"We receive this mandate of people of India with humility and gratitude," Sushma posted.

Sonia, Modi, Sushma to campaign in OdishaBhubaneswar, April 8 : Congress chief Sonia Gandhi as well as BJP leaders Narendra Modi and Sushma Swaraj will campaign in Odisha for the second phase of the Lok Sabha election, to be held April 17, party sources said Tuesday.

Gandhi who visited Odisha for a few hours Saturday and addressed a rally in Khariar town of Nuapada district, about 550 km from here, will again be in the state Thursday to campaign in the coastal belt.

Swaraj, leader of the opposition in the outgoing Lok Sabha, will hit the campaign trail in Rairangpur, Anandpur and Mahakalpada the same day.

Addressing the house on the last sitting of 15th Lok Sabha, Swaraj wished luck to all the members in the parliamentary elections, saying they were opponents not enemy.

"The opposition is based on issues. We criticise them, but the sharpest of criticisms do not come in the way of personal relations... Advani ji always advised me to behave according to the dignity of the house," the leader of opposition said.

BJP blames government for stalemate in parliament

Sushma-SwarajNew Delhi, Aug 24 : The Bharatiya Janata Party Saturday blamed the Congress' ambivalent position on carrying out its own decision to carve out a separate Telengana state out of Andhra Pradesh for the stalemate in parliament during the ongoing monsoon session.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj told media persons that unless the government executed its decision and carved out Telangana, Andhra Pradesh would not move towards normalcy.

Extending her BJP's full support for amending the constitution, she said that it was this state of indecision and consequent uncertainty that was keeping Andhra Pradesh on the boil.

"I have checked on Kishtwar. Many injured. Houses and shops burnt. Please do something immediately," Swaraj told Abdullah on Twitter.

In reply, Abdullah said: "Injuries and damage on both sides. Situation is being brought under control. Adequate forces sent."

"I am not referring to any side. Everyone injured there is a Hindustani," she said in reply.

Chidambaram meets BJP leaders, seeks support for financial bills

Chidambaram.New Delhi, Aug 3 : Finance Minister P. Chidambaram Saturday met BJP leaders Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Yashwant Sinha to seek the main opposition party's support for financial legislation during the monsoon session of parliament beginning Aug 5.

Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said that some suggestions were agreed to during the meeting but there was no meeting ground on some others.

"Some suggestions were agreed to and on some others, there was no agreement," he said but declined to go into the details.

"I am going to his house and will talk to him and I am sure we will be able to convince him. I have spoken to him over phone and told him that I am coming to see him," she told reporters here.

"I am terribly shocked to know about the details of the rape of five year old child in Delhi. She should be shifted to AIIMS immediately," Sushma Swaraj said on her Twitter account.

"I had thought that after Damini case thinking will change. Unfortunately, the situation has worsened," she said.

The AIADMK members also reached near speaker Meira Kumar's podium, protesting the arrest of some Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy.

Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj said the BJP too wants the house to function properly, but it will be possible only after the issue of Shinde's remark will be resolved.
